TikTok Ads in DACH: the underestimated performance channel

The most expensive misjudgment in the media mix
"TikTok is only for teenagers." This sentence is heard in almost every initial meeting, and it costs companies in the DACH region market share every year. The reality: Demographically, the platform has long since arrived in the mainstream of society. The high-purchasing-power target groups aged 25+, 35+, and 45+ have been growing for years, while advertising prices are often still significantly cheaper compared to Meta. Less competition on the advertising side combined with growing attention on the user side: this exact gap is what makes a channel interesting for performance.
Content graph instead of social graph
The structural difference to Meta: TikTok doesn't show you what your friends like, but what keeps you watching. The algorithm evaluates every video based on how people react to it, not who posted it. This also applies to ads. Reach is not simply bought; it is earned through creative quality.
For advertisers, this means two things. First, a strong creative can scale disproportionately on a small budget because the platform rewards good content. Second, TikTok is even less forgiving of weak creatives than Meta. The channel is an amplifier, in both directions.
Who TikTok Ads work for
The channel works fastest for e-commerce with visually self-explanatory products, for offers with impulse pricing, and for lead generation with a low barrier to entry. Recruiting also performs remarkably well in the DACH region. On the other hand, if you have long B2B sales cycles involving five decision-makers, it is better to start on Meta and add TikTok later. The order of priority in your mind is important: TikTok complements a working performance stack; it does not replace it.
How to get started successfully
The most common mistake is recycling: Meta ads are cropped to 9:16 and uploaded to TikTok. The platform detects this, and so do the users. What works is native content: fast hooks in the first two seconds, real people, and sound as a design tool rather than an afterthought.
In addition, craftsmanship is key: tracking from day one via Pixel plus Events API, a realistic testing window of four to six weeks instead of two, and a planned pipeline for creative replenishment, as fatigue sets in faster on TikTok than on Meta. With Smart+, TikTok also offers an automation layer that, similar to Advantage+ on Meta, takes over targeting once enough signals are present.
The window is now
The target audience is there. Advertising prices are still moderate. In many industries, the competition is still asleep. Such constellations are rare in performance marketing, and they never last long.
