Meta introduces AI business agents

The chatbot is dead. Long live the AI agent.

Anyone who has experienced one of those classic chatbots on a website in recent years knows: it wasn't helpful, it was frustration with a sender. Endless loops, generic answers, ending with "Your request has been forwarded". The result was a damaged image for a technology that is actually capable of more.

This is currently changing fundamentally. Large Language Models (LLMs) are raising the concept to a completely different level. And Meta has realized that this is exactly where the next multi-billion dollar business is waiting. Business Agents, integrated directly into WhatsApp, Instagram, and Messenger, are intended to enable companies to advise, support, and convert customers in a way that was previously only possible with real humans. Well set up, with the right information and clear guardrails, this will have a measurable impact on buyer behavior.

What Meta Business Agents can do and where the limit lies

The crucial difference from old chatbots is not just the technology itself. It lies in the structure. An LLM-based agent can understand context, ask follow-up questions, individualize product recommendations, and actively accompany a purchasing decision. That is a different category than "Press 1 for returns".

But: The agent is only as good as the foundation on which it stands. Anyone who does not define clear guidelines, who does not provide a clean product database, and who does not set limits on what the agent is and isn't allowed to do, will produce exactly the problems we already see today with poorly configured support bots. A well-known example from the US shows how an AI agent of a large fast-food chain started responding to user inputs with code snippets instead of taking orders. Not because the technology failed, but because the setup failed.

For companies, this means: deploying Meta Business Agents is not plug-and-play. It is strategic work. Anyone who ignores this risks not only poor conversions, but also damages the brand experience.

Meta's real goal: Data, data, data

Make no mistake: Meta is not a philanthropic company. The core business model was and is data. Business Agents are not a break from this logic, but rather its logical evolution.

Every conversation a user has with a Business Agent is a data point. Which products are they interested in? Where do they abandon the process? What objections do they raise? What finally convinces them? These behavioral patterns, aggregated at the platform level, make Meta an even more precise tool for advertisers. Not just for retargeting, but for prediction. In the future, Meta will understand even better when someone is about to make a purchase decision, even before
